Conor O'Brien is a Toronto-based film director and First Assistant Director. Born in Ireland, he immigrated to Canada in 2009 — first as an architect, then as a filmmaker, having caught the filmmaking bug in 2011 and never looked back.
After working as a DGC A.D in long format film & TV, Conor made the switch to Commericals around 2017. Now he works as a 1st Assistant Director across Ontario's commercial sector. That experience — managing complex shoots under pressure — shapes his approach to directing: rigorous, prepared, and focused on performance.
His directorial work centres on character-driven stories, often rooted in his own experience as an immigrant to Canada from Ireland. His current project, THE COWARD, is a live-action short war film set during the Battle of Lundy's Lane, 1814 — a story about an Irish immigrant soldier confronting fear, identity, and belonging on Canadian soil. Production is currently underway, with Day 1 already shot in Sept 2025.
